Talbot time to move

"You can be a leader in many ways, you don't just have to wear the captain's armband."

Pars new signing gave his first interview to this website. The 29 year old Englishman who joins from Livingston said:-

"I have come to Dunfermline for a new challenge. I want to better my career, I want to progress and wanted to move on. Seven years at a club is a long time. I have given loyalty to that club and could not have given anything less than what I have given and I want to give another club the opportunity to have my services.

"Dunfermline is a massive club, they are one of between the top eight and ten clubs in the country. They are a massive club with a lot of history and the potential there to do something special is phenomenal and I want to be part of that. That is one of the reasons and another is because the management team wanted to sign me. That is nice to have - people who want to have you in their team and be part of their squad.

"I can play centre half and I can play midfield but I am naturally a left back. I have done jobs for managers in the past playing at centre half, I actually quite like playing centre half and although I am only five foot eight and a half, I am quite tenacious, I don't mind getting stuck in and winning headers. I don't mind a challenge."

Jason has played against Dunfermline at least six times and may be remembered for being an uncompromising defender, he himself described what can be expected from him:-

"An honest, committed player that will give 100 per cent no matter what. I am very determined and the bigger the challenge the more you will get from me. I have experience playing in this league. Obviously with Livingston we came up and if I can bring my experience from the Championship down and help out the young boys hopefully the fans will see that.

"The young boys are the future, this is where a lot has been passed down to me when I started off at Bolton Wanderers. I was in with players like Kevin Nolan and JJ Okocha who constantly spoke to you and made sure that you were okay. When you are 17 or 18 and first team boys are speaking to you it is quite daunting especially at a big club like that.

"It is nice for players to recognise that you need a bit of chat now and again, a bit of bringing on and if I can do that in any way, even if it is by training right, playing right, eating well or doing something that they want to do and copy and they progress, then that is fine. You can be a leader in many ways, you don't just have to wear the captain's armband."

Jason knew a few of the Pars players who have just been released but has limited knowledge of those left. His memory goes back to his first season in Scotland and a 1-0 win for the Pars on 30th December 2008.

"I am sure that I will get to know them, I may have played against them in the friendly at Spartans last season. One of my first night games in Scotland was playing against Dunfermline at East End Park. It was a good game and there were always good games against Dunfermline. I liked coming here, it was one of the stadiums I look forward to coming to, it is a big pitch and I like big pitches especially when the fans are there. Dunfermline are averaging 2500 to 3000, that is nearly 1500 more than Livingston."

How did the move came about?

"John Potter initially and Neil McCann both got in contact and then obviously when Allan Johnston came in he contacted me straight away as well. He wanted me on board and that is a massive swinging point. I wanted to be part of it. Obviously the deal has to be right for both parties and we managed to work something out and here I am."

Does his home country England still have a pull on the player?

"I am happy here, I love Scotland. I never really imagined being here for seven years but things happen for a reason and apart from my mum, dad and my sister and her family, there is nothing much for me down there. I have a daughter up here so my whole life is up here and I love the place."
