Pars take on Black Cats
Wednesday, 20th Dec 2017Young Pars team earn 1-1 draw against Sunderland Under 18s.
Earlier this week, Pars First Team Coach John Potter took a squad of young players to Sunderland for a friendly at the Black Cats Academy of Light. The Pars team, made up of primarily Under 17’s from the Fife Elite Football Academy supplemented by 4 of DAFC’s young full time players earned a very credible 1-1 draw against their Under 18 counterparts, with the Pars goal coming from FEFA player Lewis Crosbie.
John Potter said “We knew it would be a tough game for our lads with our opponents being that wee bit older but what a brilliant exercise for the players and Sunderland were first class hosts”.
The cost of transport and money for meals on the trip was provided by the Margaret Ross Memorial Fund, set up by the Pars Supporters’ Trust in memory of their late Chair and DAFC Director.
PST Chair Drew Main commented “With the Fund being set up specifically to help the young players associated with DAFC, this seemed like an ideal use of money raised recently via an auction of Pars labelled whiskies which had been owned by Margaret and donated by her partner Tom. The auction took place on fans forum dafc.net and huge thanks are due to all the winning bidders and to Kenny McLachlan for organising it. It’s almost a year since the Fund was created and we’ve already been able to provide assistance for 2 players to attend a training camp in Portugal at Benfica and now this trip to Sunderland. I think Margaret would be extremely proud of everyone involved”.
