The Air Sea Rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth circled the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium as Caley Thistle and the Pars prepared for battle but the real rescue act came from Liam Buchanan who came off the bench to winch his side off what looked like a precarious position at the base of the SPL table. He explained:-

Air Sea Rescue copter circles Tulloch Caledonian Stadium"I was delighted to come on and play a part. This season is frustrating me most because I am used to playing a lot more but you have to understand that it is a long season and you have to contribute whatever you can for the good of the club. There are lots of good players in the changing room so it is good competition.

"At the start of the game we created a lot of chances and were maybe unfortunate to go behind but in this side we have so many players who can create things and players who are going to get on the end of them. You always feel confident no matter who we are playing that you are always going to get a chance to get a goal.

"The goal gave Inverness a lift and it took us a while to get a foothold back in the game, They are the home side and you have got to expect when you come to places like that, it is never an easy place and going away with a point in hindsight is maybe not bad."

The second half sub was instrumental in both winning a penalty and converting it. Liam burst down the left with just four minutes of the game remaining but when David Proctor brought him down with a clumsy challenge there was little protest about referee Steven McLean's decision:-

"Thommo just played it down the line for me. I took a touch and the defender committed himself, fouled me and the ref gave a penalty. I didn't have too much time to think about it.

Liam grabbed responsibility for the spot kick since with Andy Kirk off the park there was no other obvious volunteers.

"There were no other confident boys running to take it off me. I always feel confident if a chance like that comes along to always step forward and be brave enough to take it."

The consequences of missing had not entered Liam's mind:-

"Obviously before the game we knew that if we came up here and didn't win and they did you were going to be bottom of the league. It was important that we picked up a point and managed to stay above them. At the end of the day there's still a long way to go in this season.

"The last few weeks have been hard but this is the SPL and when you make silly wee mistakes like we have done in the last couple of weeks then you are going to get punished for them. The boys are all enjoying it and we go into every game looking forward to it and confident that we can get something out of them."

Having been the hero in the Highland capital Liam is hopeful that will put him in contention for a starting place.

"It is frustrating sitting on the bench. Like any player you get frustrated but when you you get a chance like I did against Inverness when you come on you just have to make an impact in the game and give the Manager a wee problem."

Liam Buchanan is thanked by Jim McIntyre
