Ewan’s Parfect Day

Monday, 1st May 2023

EO:- “It doesn`t happen every day, that you win a league title, so I`m really going to enjoy it.

It was an ecstatic Ewan Otoo who claimed that the emotional scenes of the League One trophy presentation were “everything that football’s about”. On Saturday afternoon a 2-1 victory over Clyde was quickly forgotten as fans joined equally excited players and management in celebrating the Pars promotion to the cinch Championship.

Since twenty year old Ewan arrived at Dunfermline on loan from Celtic in February, he always had his sights on helping his new team mates win the league. Now having savoured the taste of success he is wanting more! He told the website:-

“This ranks right at the top. It doesn`t happen every day, that you win a league title, so I`m really going to enjoy it. Honestly, it`s everything football`s about for me. I just want more of it. It`s a great club, great fans, and it`s unbelievable. My family are here with me celebrating. It`s good, they`ve been to every game, supporting me every game, so big, big love to them.

"It feels excellent. Since the first day I`ve been here, this is what we were looking forward to. We knew we had work to do, but it feels great to get it done, and for a day like this. This is exactly what I was hoping for, exactly what I was working for, what the team were working for, and to be able to do it, is brilliant. I`m loving it, loving it with the fans and everything. It was great."

Ewan was clearly bursting with pride and as a member of the title winning team, he is delighted to have earned himself a place in the history of Dunfermline Athletic. Saturday saw another two records added to those already set this season. The home league season closed undefeated and with the lowest ever goals conceded at home. He continued:-

"It`s the kind of things that the gaffer`s been drilling into us - loads to play for, we`ve got to get the records, and it`s great to get that those. We`ve still got more to play for next week as well.”

The hamstring injury to Rhys Breen on 18th March in the goalless draw at home to FC Edinburgh created the opening that Ewan has grabbed. He explained how he came to start and play every minute of the Pars next seven league games:-

"I came in and I knew my chance would come. In my head, I just thought, you need to wait for your chance, and be ready for when your chance comes. Hopefully I`ve done that, and I feel like I`ve put that into the performances."

In 2021 Ewan made fifteen appearances for Clyde but on Saturday he enjoyed several sorties in an attacking role as he tried to force the winning goal against them. He had a broad smile as he added, “it’s good to be able to get forward as well, and not just be stuck at the back!"

Ewan’s relief was shared by the 6000 fans watching on, when Lewis McCann’s added time goal provided the perfect ending to the home programme:-

"What a goal, what a day. I was right behind it and saw it going in the top corner. What a goal." One more game to go so can Dunfermline end on another high? "Absolutely, for what`s been a great season, it`s important to end it on a high as well, so that`s what we`re looking to do."

Ewan returns to Celtic after next Saturday but will we see the big man back at Dunfermline? He laughed - “we`ll see! I like it here, so we`ll see!"
